Teaching
This is a full-time study programme (40 hours per week), combining structure with flexibility. Most of the programme is delivered online through our digital learning platform, and you can plan a large part of your studies independently. At the same time, some teaching and group activities take place in real time, and you are expected to participate in these synchronous sessions.
Although the programme is mainly online, the three on-campus weeks at Campus Valla in Linköping, Sweden are a central pedagogical component. They give you the opportunity to deepen your learning, build a sense of community with your fellow students, and strengthen your sense of belonging in the programme. We therefore strongly encourage you to prioritise attending all campus weeks.
Across the programme, courses combine self-study, recorded lectures, real-time online teaching, and collaborative group work. The exact mix varies, but the programme provides a clear structure that allows for flexibility in how you organise your studies. A stable internet connection is required.
The dates for the Campus Weeks are:
Campus week 1 (first year) August 24 – August 28, 2026
Campus week 2 (first year) March 1 – March 4, 2027
Campus week 3 (second year) February 28 – March 2, 2028
Read more about the Campus Weeks here: /en/news-item/students-from-all-over-the-world-meet-for-a-week-to-discuss-children-s-issues
You will receive a detailed schedule before each course and before each campus week. During the campus weeks we want you to be prepared to participate in classes and examinations throughout the entire weeks. Information about the first course and the first campus week will be sent out in June.
The autumn semester runs between week 34 and 3 with a break over Christmas and New Year (weeks 52, 53 and 1) and the spring semester runs between week 4 and 23.

Tuition fee, payment and residence permit
Students who are not citizens from Sweden or the EU/EEA are required to pay their tuition fees by 15 May 2026 to commence studies at LiU. Being admitted to a distance programme does not make you eligible for a residence permit in Sweden.
Questions?
LiU will be sending out an email series to all students admitted to an international programme at LiU in the lead up to the autumn semester with details about tuition fees, scholarships, and other important steps to consider if you are an international student. The Admitted students page is also a hub of information. Swedish students may find Antagen more relevant.
Do not hesitate to contact the programme director Lina Söderman Lago with any questions you may have about the programme structure, course content, specific course modules or the on-campus periods. For concerns on practical matters regarding your studies at Linköping University please see contact form further down on this page.
