These factors causes stress, and stress-related diseases are a major problem in the modern society. Stress causes activation of the body’s stress systems which results in release of the stress hormone cortisol. Cortisol is accumulated in hair. A hair samples can therefore be seen as a mirror, reflecting the amount of stress an individual has been exposed to last months. The aim of my research is to evaluate whether this type of stress increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes type 2. Furthermore, I am responsible for the development and scientific evaluation of a digital platform to treat diabetes type 2 in the primary health care. The aim is to develop a tool that can help patients with diabetes to take control over their disease by improving lifestyle and thereby reduce the risk of developing diabetes-related complications. This project is a national collaboration between three healthcare regions in Sweden.

My research focus is on the negative effects of stress. Primarily in relation to diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, I'm leading projects with the aim to improve the diabetes care using digital platforms, so called mHealth applications.

Hallmarks of the modern society includes a constant flow of information, a large amount of social interactions and an increased integration between work and leisure time.
