Professor

My research spans from pre-clinical application and implementation of the next generation of imaging methods for assessment of cardiovascular function.

Cardiovascular physiology and imaging in health and disease

My research area is translational approaches of cardiovascular physiology and imaging. Primarily magnetic resonance imaging based methods are utilised to assess cardiovascular function and remodelling in health and disease. A main field is multidimensional blood flow specific assessment of cardiac function in acquired and congenital heart disease.

My research deals with translational approaches of cardiovascular physiology and imaging in health and disease.

The overall aim is to evaluate and apply new imaging methods in order to provide novel aspects of assessment of cardiovascular function and remodelling in health, athletes as well as in acquired and congenital heart disease. The ultimate goal is to implement these new methods into clinical practice.

Magnetic resonance imaging

Primarily magnetic resonance imaging based methods are utilised, and a main field is multidimensional blood flow specific assessment of cardiac function.
The blood flow within the heart and vascular system is a fundamental aspect of cardiovascular function. In medical diagnostics detailed information based on morphology are widely used, but we still have limited investigative tools to focus on the blood flow itself.

In the field of flow specific assessment of cardiac function I have several international collaborations, and I have been and am member of international working groups working on consensus statements and upcoming multicenter studies.
