Professor, Head of Unit

My primary interest is in Biogeochemistry and its applications in various environmental issues with definite societal relevance. I teach classes in Environmental Science, Introductory geology and Climate Science.

My research focuses on environmental issues in sedimentary and aquatic systems (e.g. pollution, climate change,food and water security). I teach undergraduate and graduate students, and supervise PhD students.

Ancient seeds give clues on climate change

Thousand-year-old seeds, and traces hidden in the soil for more than 5,000 years, provide clues to how people and their crops were affected by climate change. This knowledge may help us adapt to changes in our lifetime and in the future.

Climate change and the rise and fall of civilisations

Pronounced climate fluctuations and changed conditions for agriculture coincided with the rise and fall of the Persian Empires, according to an international study. The study highlights the vulnerability of human societies to fluctuating climate.

SEK 49 million from Swedish Research Council

Six LiU researchers will receive almost SEK 49 million from the Swedish Research Council鈥檚 latest round of funding. The projects concern areas such as epigenetics, mega coal-fired power plants, rehabilitation in conflict zones and tuberculosis.
