Oleg Sysoev

Senior Associate Professor

My responsibilities are research, teaching at various levels and administration

I currently work as a senior associate professor in Statistics at the Division of Statistics and Machine Learning, Department of Computer and Information Science. My responsibilities are research, teaching at various levels, and administration.

I was born in Crimea and then moved to Moscow where I got a master degree in applied mathematics with specialization System Programming. Afterwards, I received a PhD degree in Statistics at Linköping University in 2010.

Before coming to Sweden I also worked as a senior customer support engineer at the NetCracker technology (telecommunications).

Research interests

My research is focused on development of novel models and tools for statistical machine learning and data mining in various applications, including medicine, public health and telecommunications.

WASP at Department of Computer and Information Science (IDA)

WASP, Wallenberg AI autonomous systems and software program, is the largest individual research investment in Sweden in modern times. One of the WASP research environments at LiU is located at the Department of Computer and Information Science.

SEK 13 million for research into solving murders using AI

Was it murder, poisoning or was the death maybe caused by disease? Researchers have now been granted SEK 13 million from the Swedish Research Council to develop a methodology to solve crimes using detailed analyses and artificial intelligence.

The Division of Statistics and Machine Learning (STIMA)

The STIMA division is part of the Department of Computer and Information Science. The research and teaching activities are focused on modern data analysis and the division hosts the international master's programme in Statistics and Machine Learning.

Department of Computer and Information Science (IDA)

The Department of Computer and Information Science is one of the largest departments in northern Europe in its field. Research activity covers artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, software and computer systems, and data science.
