My research is focused on cardiovascular disease, and in particular hypertension and diabetes.

Presentation

Does measurement of blood pressure and blood sugar at home improve management of hypertension and diabetes?

High blood pressure and diabetes are leading causes of premature death, primarily through cardiovascular disease such as myocardial infarction and stroke. Most patients with hypertension and diabetes are managed in primary care settings, and both blood pressure and blood sugar have historically been measured in the clinic. However, a growing body of evidence suggests that home blood pressure provides a more accurate prediction of cardiovascular risk.

The ability to measure blood sugar at home has also improved considerably with the advent of continuous glucose monitors (CGM). Home-based measurements enhance patient engagement and facilitate remote management. My research focuses on enhancing our understanding of measurements of blood pressure and blood sugar at home, including which patient groups and clinical contexts are most suitable.
