Neurological rehabilitation

Richard Levi became a MD (Karolinska Institute) in 1983, a board certified specialist in Neurology in 1990, and a board certified specialist in Rehabilitation medicine in 1992. He presented his PhD thesis in clinical neuroscience (Karolinska Institute) in 1996, and became associate professor in clinical neuroscience (Karolinska Institute) in 1999. He completed an executive MBA (Stockholm School of Economics) in 2003. Initially working as a clinical neurologist and neurorehabilitationist, he co-founded the Spinalis Clinic in Stockholm for rehabilitation of spinal cord injuries. Between 2009 and 2016 he was professor in Rehabilitation medicine at Umeå University, and from 2016 – currently (October 2024) professor in Rehabilitation medicine at Linköping University.

He combined research and clinical medical work until August 2023, when he retired from clinical work to continue with research. He has published about 100 peer-reviewed research papers, 4 medical textbooks and numerous articles, mainly on medical topics. Since 20 years, he has been interested in implementing philosophy in healthcare contexts. He is currently (July 2025) writing a book on existential health, to be published in 2026, as well as co-authoring a second edition of a textbook on medical diagnosis (”Symptom – Diagnosis – Therapy”).

During my career, I have lectured thousands of hours on neurology, rehabilitation medicine, spinal cord injury, post COVID condition, and on philosophical and existential aspects of medicine. Audiences have been medical and paramedical students, colleagues and laypeople.
