The MS2E strategic centre was formed in 2006 to provide the strongest research platform and framework for cooperation between organisations in the area of advanced surface engineering, with a focus on nanotechnology for tools, components, contacts and sensors.

During the project, we worked to expand core R&D capabilitites by enlarging and protecting the IPR base of Swedish companies in key industrial sectors. We aimed to offer knowledge based design of functional materials on the nanoscale to provide unique and improved surface properties with industrial opportunities, as well to train future generations of engineers, researchers and industrialists.
