Agri Living Lab Sweden

A national platform and model where farmers, researchers, and companies collaborate to develop and test new solutions for the agriculture of the future.

Agri Living Lab Sweden is a national initiative aimed at strengthening collaboration between agriculture, research, and technology in Sweden.

The project is based on the need for a more coordinated structure for how farmers, researchers, and agtech companies can collaborate on testing and innovation in real production environments.

A National Platform and Infrastructure

At the core of the initiative is the development of a long-term infrastructure of active farms across Sweden, where new solutions can be developed, tested, and evaluated under real-world conditions. The farms represent different types of production systems, soil conditions, and climate zones, creating opportunities for robust testing and comparable results.

Through a digital platform, participating farms are brought together within a shared structure where researchers and companies can identify, connect with, and collaborate with suitable testing environments. The platform serves both as an entry point for testing activities and as a channel for knowledge exchange, results, and experiences from completed trials.

At the same time, methods and frameworks are being developed to ensure these activities are carried out effectively — from matching needs with relevant test environments to approaches for implementation, documentation, and knowledge sharing. The goal is to create a structure that makes it easier to work systematically, relevantly, and long-term with testing and development in real agricultural environments.

Farms, Roles, and Working Methods

Within Agri Living Lab Sweden, farms are organized into different roles: development farms, test farms, and demo farms. Read more about this under “How We Work.” This structure enables everything from research projects and technology evaluations to demonstrations and knowledge dissemination. At the same time, quality-assured methods for on-farm trials, data collection, and collaboration between stakeholders are being developed.

A central part of the initiative is creating meeting places where farmers, researchers, and companies can exchange knowledge and drive innovation together. By working closely with real farming conditions, new solutions are ensured not to remain at the idea stage, but instead to be developed, tested, and adapted to work in practice - where they can create real value for agriculture.

What is a living lab?

A living lab is a method for developing and testing new technologies in real-world environments. In Agri Living Lab Sweden this takes place on farms.

The project

The project is funded by the Swedish Board of Agriculture through EIP-AGRI and runs until 2028, aiming to establish a long-term platform for agricultural innovation.
