Research in Applied Physics aims to apply the methods, models and approaches of physics in fields such as surface and molecular physics, biotechnology, lab-on-a-chip, organic electronics, self-organising materials, and polymeric and soft materials.

Many species will become extinct as a consequence of global warming. This is the prediction of a mathematical model developed at LiU. The simulations show that climate change will have a particularly large impact on ecosystems in polar regions.

Scientists at LiU have developed a hydrogel, that have properties similar to the natural environment of cells in the body. It can be adapted to the requirements of difficult-to-culture cell types, and to produce organ-like structures on a microchip.

LiU team awarded silver medal in an international competition in synthetic biology, with project on protein folding in Alzheimer鈥檚 disease.
