My research focuses largely on self-control and how self-control correlates with people’s emotions and actions.
My research can be summarised in two areas:
Decisions that affect my future self
Many of our most important decisions are such that we do not experience the outcomes of our choices immediately, but only after a certain time lag; this applies to decisions ranging from pension savings to how environmentally conscious we are in our daily lives. The main focus of my research is on how self-control, intuition and knowledge influence us when we make these kinds of decisions.
Financial anxiety, climate anxiety and other emotions
When faced with major and important issues, we may experience a sense of worry or insecurity. Together with my colleagues, I have investigated which psychological aspects correlate with these negative emotions, as well as how these emotions influence our decisions.
