Associate Professor, Docent

I work as a senior lecturer and researcher at the Unit of Physiotherapy. In my research, I focus on training as prevention for injuries in sport and as treatment for vasomotor symptoms in postmenopausal women.

Training as prevention and as treatment

Research about injury prevention training in sports

I am part of the Sport Without Injury ProgrammE (SWIPE) research group with Martin Hägglund as principal investigator. We focus on the Knee Control and Knee Control+ injury prevention training programmes and have shown that these are efficacious in preventing injuries in team sports. To be able to prevent as many injuries as possible, the programmes need to be implemented and used throughout the players’ careers. My particular focus in SWIPE is on finding ways to support implementation and use of Knee Control+. We cooperate with the large Swedish fitness organisation Friskis&Svettis in delivering education to their fitness instructors who in their turn can educate sports coaches in Knee Control+.

Research on training for postmenopausal women

I also do research on training interventions for women postmenopause. Previously, we conducted a study on strength training as treatment for vasomotor symptoms in postmenopausal women with positive results. At the moment, we are conducting a three-armed randomised controlled trial where postmenopausal women are randomised to high-intensity aerobic training, strength training or a control group for 15 weeks. We study the effects of these interventions on risk factors for cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis as well as effects on vasomotor symptoms.
