Innovation for the environment and transport

Public transport plays an important role in today's society, as it can largely be considered part of a sustainable transport system. My research aims to influence decision-makers to promote an innovative and efficient process for public transport procurement, with a focus on both cost-effectiveness and the environment.

Sustainable public transport – how do we get there?

I am the project manager for a project funded by Vinnova in the call for proposals ‘Innovations for a sustainable society: environment and transport 2017’. The aim of this research project is to evaluate the cost and environmental effects of various cost drivers in public transport. Many reasons for cost increases in public transport are based on public procurement of public transport, and it has therefore been of interest to research the effect of different degrees of detailed control over transport.

I have a PhD in optimisation theory and use mathematical models in my research approach, but I also work with more qualitative methods such as interviews. I work part-time at , which is also a partner in this project.

In addition to Linköping University and VTI, K2 (Sweden's national centre for research and education on public transport), Karlstad University (SAMOT, The Service and Market Oriented Transport Research Group), the bus company Nobina, Östgötatrafiken and Sveriges Bussföretag are also participating.

The results can be used to influence decision-makers to promote an innovative and efficient process for public transport procurement with a focus on both cost-effectiveness and the environment.
