Research: inflammatory mediators in rheumatic disease

The overall aim of the research is to obtain an enhanced understanding of inflammation for the benefit of patients with inflammatory diseases, mainly rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). To accomplish this, we perform experimental studies in acute inflammation and innate immunology to target inflammatory mediators.
Key areas include the biological roles and synthesis regulation of acute phase proteins (including complement), autoantibodies, immune complexes, leukocyte respiratory burst reactions/frustrated phagocytosis, and platelets in inflammation.
In addition I have a long standing interest in biointerphases and biosensors.

Teaching

I am the Deputy Head of the Department (BKV), with main responsibilities in the field of education. I am also the Director of Studies for a handful of courses for civil engineering students (Engineering Biology and Chemical Biology), and teacher of, for example, Immunology and Cell Biology, and for Degree Projects.
