NAISS, the National Academic Infrastructure for Supercomputing in Sweden, is providing researchers with high-performance computing (HPC) resources, storage capacity, and data services.

The Swedish Research Infrastructure for Advanced Electron Microscopy, ARTEMI, has secured funding from the Swedish Research Council for another two years. It is crucial for advanced research in materials science, inorganic chemistry and physics.

Professor Erik Lindahl will be the new director of the National Academic Infrastructure for Supercomputing in Sweden (NAISS) – the most widely used research infrastructure in the country.

For the first time, scientists have managed to create sheets of gold only a single atom layer thick. According to the researchers from LiU this has given the gold new properties that can make it suitable for use in various applications.

Sweden has been selected to host one of seven European AI Factories that will strengthen the EU’s competitiveness in the field. The AI Factory combines a state-of-the-art AI-optimised supercomputer with support for education, research and innovation.

The hosting agreement between NAISS at LiU and EuroHPC JU has been signed. This means that LiU is now officially hosting the European supercomputer Arrhenius, which will become one of the world’s fastest computers.

LiU has gained a strong position in artificial intelligence. In August, the government’s AI Commission visited Campus Valla to listen to researchers and acquaint themselves with supercomputers.

¸£Àû¼§ is celebrating its 50th birthday, and in May there will be an intensive party week with lectures, a festival and a birthday reception. King Carl XVI Gustaf, who inaugurated the university in 1975, is the guest of honour.

¸£Àû¼§ has been selected to host a new supercomputer – Arrhenius. It will be one of the world’s fastest supercomputers and a resource for researchers in academia, industry and the public sector across Europe.
