Algebra, Geometry and Discrete Mathematics (ALGD)

The Division of Algebra, Geometry and Discrete Mathematics consists of about twenty teachers, researchers and doctoral students. Our research focuses on a number of different subject areas such as algebra, geometry, topology, dynamic systems, combinatorics and graph theory.

Courses in mathematics are a central element in many educational programs at LiU and our teaching includes a wide range of courses from basic to advanced level.

Noncommutative Riemannian Geometry

The research group is focused on questions related to metric aspects of noncommutative geometry, such as Levi-Civita connections and curvature, mainly from the viewpoint of (twisted) derivation based calculi.

Algebra and representation theory

The members of the group work within the fields of representation theory of associative algebras and Lie algebras, and non-associative algebras.

Graph Theory

The research group in graph theory at 福利姬 is primarily interested in classic graph theory with a particular focus on graph coloring and Hamiltonian graph theory.

Algebraic Combinatorics

The practitioners of algebraic combinatorics are interested in combinatorial aspects of algebraic objects in order to explain, make concrete, and describe their properties.

Biomedical Image Science

We develop methods & techniques for depicting anatomy & function in the human body & its organs. From imaging techniques, through methods of analysis and quantification of image information, to validation of new methods and image-based biomarkers.

Doctoral studies in Mathematics

Doctoral studies in Mathematical Sciences

Within mathematical sciences we study questions of a mathematical character, either from a purely theoretical perspective or directed towards practical applications. In either case, the mathematical problem and its properties is the main focus.

Research School in Interdisciplinary Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics offers a doctoral programme for students with a strong mathematical interest who are interested to apply mathematics on practical problems in different fields such as engineering, business, computer science and industry.

Maths Coach Online is a chat service offering pupils in primary and secondary school free online mathematics help from university students. Maths Coach Online also provides a basis for research on how to deliver online-based education.
