Through the development and integration of medical research and education with health care and industries, we contribute to increased quality of life in a global perspective.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Link枚ping University is a national center for research, education, and innovation in Biomedical Engineering. Our activities are driven by the society鈥檚 healthcare needs and are conducted in close collaboration with the biomedical industry and hospital clinics.

Our main goal is to be a catalyst for sustainable growth in the biomedical engineering innovation systems of the future - an arena for leading international researchers, teachers, entrepreneurs, and students - where new knowledge is created and disseminated. Through development and integration of biomedical research and education with the health care and the business community, we contribute to enhanced quality of life on a global scale.

Research fields in biomedical engineering

Biomedical Image Science

We develop methods & techniques for depicting anatomy & function in the human body & its organs. From imaging techniques, through methods of analysis and quantification of image information, to validation of new methods and image-based biomarkers.

Neuroengineering

Neuroengineering is a cross-disciplinary research area where engineering meets neuroscience. New methods, tools and techniques are developed and translated for clinical use. The research contributes to new knowledge of the human brain.

Biomedical Optics

Biomedical Optics studies the basic principles of interaction between light and biological tissues, cells and molecules and develops new technologies for use in basic research and clinical applications.

Biomedical Modeling and Informatics

We combine modeling, simulation, and data science to analyse biomedical data. Through advanced algorithms, we can interpret large datasets, understand complex processes, develop new treatments, and improve diagnostics.
