Subject-based approaches in natural sciences instruction

Education in general and in the sciences in particular is not
infrequently characterised by general subject-based or pedagogical approaches, which might be anything from laboratory method, 鈥漣nquiry-based learning鈥� and 鈥漟lipped classroom鈥� to outdoor education.

Research in this area is focussed partly on further developing subject-based approaches in the natural sciences and partly on investigating and critically examining their contemporary historical and cultural expression.

The extended NO-classroom 鈥� Outdoor education and alternative learning environments

The classroom is not the only place where pupils can learn about the natural sciences. Our research into alternative learning environments focusses on instruction and learning in natural environments

Postgraduate projects

The flipped NO classroom

This project studies the 鈥渇lipped classroom鈥� as a method of working and as a pedagogical current. The focus is on understanding this movement in a Swedish school context.

Science Education

Subject-based teaching in the natural sciences is a research area that conducts research in conjunction with teacher training at 福利姬, in particular the part which is carried out in Norrköping.

Language, tools and representations

This research area focusses on these tools and representations and what opportunities for learning science they present. We also examine how new types of tools change learning in the natural sciences in and of itself.

In this research area we throw light on issues such as what educators do when they conduct assessments and on what basis they make their assessments.
