The Department of Science and Technology is part of Campus Norrköping.
We research and teach in several technical and scientific disciplines, of which our main areas are organic electronics, media technology, communications and logistics.

The department offers about 200 courses annually for our master and bachelor programs. We also have extensive doctoral studies.

You can find us in the beautiful industrial landscape by the Motala River in central Norrköping.

Research Environments

Our department brings together a vibrant community of researchers advancing knowledge across a broad spectrum of fields. Our research environments are characterized by strong interdisciplinary collaboration, societal relevance, and a commitment to sustainable development.

At the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE), we design and synthesize advanced organic and hybrid materials for applications ranging from energy harvesting and storage to printed electronics, bioelectronics, and photonics. Our research units explore everything from catalysis and green polymer chemistry to electronic plants and organic nanoelectronics, with a shared focus on materials for a sustainable future.

Media and Information Technology (MIT) cover the full spectrum of visualization, graphics, and human-centred technologies. Our research units develop new methods for computer graphics, information and scientific visualization, immersive environments, interaction design, visual learning, and graphic communication. We combine fundamental research with strategic applications, collaborating with industry and society to create innovative solutions and foster public engagement in science and technology.

Communications and Transport Systems (KTS) is a national leader in transportation and logistics research, addressing the planning, design, and management of infrastructure and systems for the movement of people and goods. Our work covers air traffic optimization, construction logistics, emergency response, public transport planning, smart city telecommunications, traffic modelling, transport analytics, urban logistics, and wireless network optimization—always with an eye on digitalization, sustainability, and societal impact.

At Physics, Electronics and Mathematics (FEM) our expertise spans high-frequency communication electronics, where we design efficient systems for everything from wireless sensor networks to high-speed data transmission. In applied mathematics, our researchers tackle complex theoretical and practical challenges, including machine learning, mathematical biology, and image processing, often in close collaboration with other leading research groups at LiU.

Together, these research environments make ITN a dynamic hub for scientific discovery and technological innovation, addressing the challenges of today and shaping the solutions of tomorrow.
