What drew you to apply for the SweCSS Visiting Fellows Program, and how does it align with your research interests?
I have always wanted to visit the country with one of the highest gender equality scores, as this is central to my research. In addition, I was intrigued not only by the computational methods used at the institute but also by the research conducted here. During my stay, I was able to further develop my collaboration with Alexandra Rottenkolber on a large field experiment.
How would you describe your experience visiting Sweden? Was there anything about Swedish culture or life that surprised you?
I really appreciate the Swedish sense of coziness, especially during the winter—something that is closely tied to the fika culture. What surprised me most, however, is how present people are in interactions—truly focusing on the other person without being distracted by phones or similar things.
What is your favorite memory from your time at SweCSS or in Sweden?
I will probably never forget having the opportunity to ice skate on Riddarfjärden in Stockholm. I happened to be in Sweden during one of those rare winters with consistently freezing temperatures, which made it possible to skate through the city. In addition, the warm and welcoming atmosphere at the institute made my stay very enjoyable (especially fika and Super Tuesdays!).
What has been the most rewarding aspect of your time at SweCSS?
Definitely the people. I met many interesting and inspiring researchers who gave me new ideas for my work, as well as new directions to explore and potential collaborations.
What advice would you give to someone considering applying to the program?
Just do it!
