During his time at Linkƶping University, he became known as ā€œRobot-Fredrikā€ from Swedish public service television (SVT), one of the country’s foremost AI experts and a real driving force, including for gifted young people’s right to a good education. The latter could be seen in the mathematics camps that he arranged every summer on campus for young people from all over the country.

Fredrik Lƶfgren expressed his commitment with the words ā€œI want to inspire others to play with science and technology. It’s my way of helping to save the world.ā€ Fredrik’s energy and commitment to the possibilities of AI was balanced by his openness to the challenges that the technology also brought. In his lectures, talks and speeches, he turned what was complicated and difficult into something exciting and nuanced.

ā€œFredrik Lƶfgren has been a driving force in building LiU’s operations with humanoid robots and engaging children and young people in robotics and AI. He was an incredibly important spreader of joy, educator and creator of the future. Now it’s up to us to continue what he started and make sure we create the positive future he lived for,ā€ says Professor Fredrik Heintz at the Department of Computer and Information Science.
