Six research programmes at LiU are included on the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences’ 100 List. With its focus on crisis preparedness and on society’s ability to manage these, the research programmes are assessed as having great potential to benefit society.

The theme for the 100 List is “From knowledge to sustainable crisis preparedness”, which is a direct result of the coronavirus pandemic. The list includes 51 research projects in the fields of engineering and economic sciences focussed on sustainable preparedness for future crises. The research on the list is also in the phase where it can be put to use, for instance through industrial commercialisation, method development or societal impacts. By way of the list, IVA wants to help researchers and businesses find one another, and collaborate around societal challenges.

Linköping University has six research programmes on this year’s list:

• Efficient Management of Multiple Natural Events. Contact: Tobias Andersson Granberg, associate professor at the Department of Science and Technology (ITN).
• ICT Enabled Co-production – Using Volunteers as First Responders. Contact: Sofie Pilemalm, professor at the Department of Management and Engineering (IEI) and director of the Center for Advanced Research in Emergency Response (CARER).
• Remometer. Contact: Jelena Kurilova, assistant professor at the Department of Management and Engineering (IEI).
• Geopolitical Foresight for Sustainable Development. Together with Lund University, Stockholm University and Uppsala University. Contact: Björn-Ola Linnér, professor at the Department of Thematic Studies and programme director at Mistra Geopolitics.
• Digitalised Drinking Water Quality with Electronic Tongue. Together with Chalmers University of Technology and KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Contact at LiU: Mats Eriksson, associate professor at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM).
• Automation in Repair and Remanufacture. Together with Jönköping University and RISE Research Institutes of Sweden. Contact at LiU: Erik Sundin, professor the Department of Management and Engineering (IEI).

IVA’s 100 List was launched in conjunction with IVA’s centenary in 2019 – hence the name. The project is managed in collaboration with Vinnova (Sweden’s innovation agency), PRV (Swedish Intellectual Property Office), Teknikföretagen (Association of Swedish Engineering Industries), Svenskt Näringsliv (Confederation of Swedish Enterprise), KK-stiftelsen (Knowledge Foundation), Almi and Swedish institutes of higher education.
